How to use the Percentage Calculator
Use this calculator when you know a part and a whole and want to express the part as a percentage of the whole. The whole must not be zero.
Formula / calculation logic
Percentage = (Part ÷ Whole) × 100
Worked example
If the part is 25 and the whole is 200, the result is 12.5%.
Important notes
A percentage compares two quantities on a 100-point scale. Negative values are mathematically possible, so the tool does not silently reject them; decide whether they make sense for your situation.
Frequently asked questions
Can the result be above 100%?
Yes. If the part is larger than the whole, the percentage is greater than 100%.
Why is zero not allowed as the whole?
Division by zero is undefined, so the calculator asks for a non-zero whole.
